Excursion from the Costa del Sol to Ronda
The oldest bullring in Spain, «el tajo», Panoranic views and the a White Town of Ronda
The City: Ronda, A Living Monument in the Mountains
Ronda, located at the northwestern edge of Málaga province, sits surrounded by the dramatic peaks of La Serranía. This rugged mountain range once made the town remote and difficult to reach, adding to its timeless charm. Rich in history, Ronda is considered one of the oldest towns in Spain, with origins dating back to prehistoric times.
Among the earliest remains are the Cueva de la Pileta, a fascinating example of prehistoric art, and megalithic structures like ancient dolmens. As you explore the town, you’ll find traces of its Arab heritage, including the Arab Baths and the historic Almocábar Gate. However, Ronda’s true highlight is the breathtaking El Tajo Gorge, a dramatic canyon over 700 meters deep that splits the city in two — turning Ronda itself into a natural monument.
Day Trip Itinerary
Your journey begins with pickup from your hotel by our tour guide. Travel along the scenic coastal road to San Pedro de Alcántara, then ascend through the stunning mountain landscape that surrounds Ronda. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views and photo opportunities.
Upon arrival, join a guided walking tour of the old quarter. Begin at the Almocábar Gate, continue past the Espíritu Santo Church, and arrive at Santa María la Mayor, formerly the town’s cathedral. The route continues through the historic center, passing the Municipal Museum, Don Juan Bosco’s house, and Plaza de España, right next to the spectacular El Tajo.
End the guided portion with a visit to Ronda’s iconic bullring, the oldest in Spain, including access to its museum. Afterward, enjoy free time to explore before returning to the Costa del Sol.
